Nothing against YOU, the following blog post is written so a 5th grader can read and understand the workings of ChatGPT.  The following blog post is written in a Question / Answer manner.  OK, let’s get started with What the holy heck is Artificial Intelligence?

What is Artificial Intelligence?

Here’s a very simple example of Artificial Intelligence. When you’re typing a letter on your computer and you misspell a word, the misspelled word is automatically corrected in a split second without you looking-up the word in a dictionary. And that’s a simple ‘kindergarten’ task compared to what Artificial Intelligence can do like ChatGPT.

What the holy heck is ChatGPT?

First, Chat using the internet means exchange information.

ChatGPT stands for Chat Generative Pretrained Transformer.  ChatGPT is an artificial intelligence chatbot.  Its foundation is a HUGE HUGE HUGE, one more time HUGE AMOUNT OF TEXT DATA.  ChatGPT is designed to respond to your questions and your other input to the chatbot.

And a chatbot is artificial intelligence that has access to mega tons of information.

Where does ChatGPT get its data?

ChatGPT sources of data are:

  • Books
  • News Articles
  • Scientific Journals
  • Wikipedia
  • and MORE

Who’s behind ChatGPT?

ChatGPT is designed by a research laboratory called Open AI.  Open AI was founded in 2015.  Open AI’s base location is San Francisco, California.

Initial backers of Open AI are:

  • Elon Musk
  • Jessica Livingston
  • Llya Sutskever
  • Peter Thiel
  • Reid Hoffman
  • Sam Altman
  • Others

These initial backers of Open AI, collectively pledged approximately $1 Billion Dollars.  Open AI launched ChatGPT on 30 November 2022.

Can you tell me more about Open AI?

OK.  Here are the stats on Open AI (Artificial Intelligence):

  • Location:  San Francisco, California
  • Address:  2185–2199 Folsom and 3180 18th Sts., San Francisco, California
  • Number of Floors:  03
  • Building Total Square Feet:  Unknown
  • Land Total Acres:  .4
  • Open AI President:  Greg Brockman
  • Number of Employees:  375
  • Number of Human Security Force:  Unknown
  • Mission:  OpenAI’s mission is to ensure that artificial general intelligence (AGI)—by which we mean highly autonomous systems that outperform humans at most economically valuable work—benefits all of humanity. We will attempt to directly build safe and beneficial AGI, but will also consider our mission fulfilled if our work aids others to achieve this outcome.
  • Hours of Operation:  Super Computer runs 24/7/365.
  • Business Hours Of Operation: Unknown
  • Main Super Computer Stats:  See website below.

What the heck kind of computer gives ChatGPT it’s unique capacity to house the HUGE AMOUNT OF TEXT DATA?

ChatGPT runs from a super computer which is the 5th most powerful computer on the Earth.  It costs approximately $100,000 a day to run this super computer.

Can you tell me a little bit more about this Super Computer?

This is where we go beyond 5th grade level explanations. The Super Computer that runs ChatGPT is a trillion times better than the toy stuff that sent astronauts to the moon. Here’s a website that can ‘try’ to answer this question: https://zahere.com/do-you-know-the-supercomputer-that-powers-chatgpt

Is ChatGPT free to use?

The basic version is free to use at the time of this writing.

How can I use the free version of ChatGPT?

Here’s a quote from Google: “go to chat.openai.com, log in, accept the terms, and start typing. The AI assistant will work just as it would when you access it from your computer.”

Are improved versions of ChatGPT being developed?

Yes, ChatGPT-4 will be the next improved, more accurate version.  According to the New York Times, ChatGPT-4 is scheduled to be released no-later-than April 2023.

Is there a paid version of ChatGPT that’s a whole lot better than the free version?

Here’s another quote from Google: “Pricing: The free version of ChatGPT is available at no cost. However, the paid version of ChatGPT is available for $9.99 per month or $99 per year.”

Are there FAKE ChatGPTs out there scamming people like me?

You bet.  Those scumbags are scamming people right now as you read this blog post.  Here’s my recommendation:

NEVER NEVER NEVER, one more time, NEVER give your credit card or debit card data to anyone or anything on the internet or through the U.S. mail.

There are plenty of FAKE ChatGPT Apps all over the internet.  At the time of this writing ChatGPT does not have its own Application for smart phones.  I’m sure they’re working on one right now.

Will ChatGPT replace Google’s Search Engines?

No, not yet anyway.  Believe it or not, Google is trying to design it’s own version of ChatGPT.  It’s called Google Bard.  Google Bard is in its infancy phase.  Initial tryouts of Google Bard didn’t look too good.

Is Google Bard available to use for the public?

At the time of this writing, no.  But keep your eyes & ears open for future developments.
