You can go to the pet store and purchase some stuff you put on your pet to kill fleas, eggs,… but I gotta tell you, that stuff is plain ol’ carcinogenic (cancer-causing agents) to you and your pet.

Ingredients: 02 jars, rubbing alcohol, double row flea comb, plastic funnel and wash cloth.

Step 01: To CAPTURE the fleas and KILL EM’ DEAD, I go to the source – my pets. So I just comb the pet using a special comb. Regular flea combs have one row of teeth – NO GOOD to trap the fleas. You need a comb that has 02 rows of metal teeth to TRAP the fleas so they don’t escape. The double-teeth comb that I use is called Safari.

Step 02: Anyway, I comb the pet 30 – 50 times (strokes) and then place the comb with the trapped fleas in a used 15-ounce jar of rubbing alcohol. In about 30 seconds of being submerged in rubbing alcohol, the fleas are dead or close to it.

Step 03: I pinch-off the fur with fleas into the jar with alcohol and I re-comb the same pet again and again depending how many fleas are on the comb each time. The rubbing alcohol kills the fleas real quick. Regular water will not do that. I found that fleas and especially ticks can remain submerged underwater alive for up to 30-minutes (ticks).

Step 04: Once you’re done with your pet(s) flea combing, no need to throw away the rubbing alcohol. You can re-use it many times. Just add more rubbing alcohol to get it to a level so when you place the comb in the jar, the flea comb double row teeth are completely submerged. Anyway, I take a taller & larger jar and place a plastic funnel over it. In the plastic funnel I place my wash cloth over it and form to the funnel-shape.

Step 05: I slowly pour the rubbing alcohol and all debris into the wash cloth funnel which filters the rubbing alcohol.   Once the alcohol is all dripped into jar, I wadd-up the wash cloth to save time and save the rubbing alcohol. I discard the fur debris with dead fleas. Pour the alcohol back into the regular jar using the funnel and CLOSE IT UP TIGHT (avoid evaporation)! I place the flea comb in the taller jar, put the funnel on the opening and put its lid in the funnel and place everything under the sink.

Most Important Note: The rubbing alcohol is EXTREMELY FLAMMABLE. If you or anyone in your household smoke, do not use this method.

My Own R & D Note: I’ve researched and tried lemon juice concoctions and brewer’s yeast (food supplement) to repel fleas. I found both are just about worthless! I read that lemon juice will kill fleas instantly. Well, I put several fleas in 100% lemon juice straight from a lemon and the fleas just swam around for several minutes.

As far as the brewer’s yeast, I put a whole bottle of brewer’s yeast tablets in my food processor and turned the hard tablets into a fine powder. Each day, I added a teaspoon to their food for 03-weeks. I found the brewer’s yeast did absolutely nothing to repel fleas. So according to my own R & D, both brewer’s yeast and lemon juice are worthless to repel fleas.
