A few years ago, I came to an intersection in Sparta, IL where volunteers were taking donations for something – I forgot what their cause was. I dropped some money in a bucket and the volunteer gave me a little label that had some writing on it.

On the road, I didn’t want to read it so I ignorantly placed it in the slot where my CD disk goes. It was just a small piece of paper but that device sucked-up that small piece of paper in a split second.

I tried to figure out how to get that piece of paper out of there. My CD player no longer worked. So I took my 2007 Saturn Vue Hybrid to the GMC Dealership in New Baden, IL (they eventually went out of business). Their only solution was to replace the whole radio / CD unit with a new one which clocked-in at over $300 bucks.

It eventually got replaced and now the CD player worked fine. But several months later I tried to re-subscribe to SiriusXM Radio with a bunch of satellite radio channels.

But it wouldn’t work. Why? The new radio readout read “XM Theft Locked.” So I took my Saturn Vue back to the dealership in New Baden, IL and the technician couldn’t figure out how to unlock my radio.

So then I went on YouTube. Those YouTube videos had you:

  • Messing with the fuses
  • Taking apart the radio and cutting away some circuitry
  • And other stupid things

So I gave up. Years passed and I recently had a renewed interest in Sirius XM Radio.

So yesterday (01 May 2019 – Wednesday), I took my vehicle to the Meier GMC Dealership in Sparta, IL and asked them about it (had an appointment).

The savvy technician took a look at it and figured out the solution. And here’s their exact quote from the invoice:

“C/S They (me) had the radio replaced and now a XM Theft Lock MSG is on the screen. Upon inspection tech found radio was programmed without the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number). Tech programmed correct VIN into radio. XM radio is now available for use after subscription.”

The total cost for inspection and reprogramming my Vue VIN into the radio was $38.30. Well worth it. I wouldn’t even know how to begin to reprogram my own radio.

Anyway, that’s the way to UNLOCK your radio without messing with fuses and cutting away some circuitry in your radio. Just take your vehicle to your local car dealership and have them read the Tech Note above.

Today, (02 May 2019 – Thursday), I used a good DEAL called “Deal49” which I got in the mail. It includes the first 02-months of satellite radio – FREE. And for the next 12-months starting in July 2019, I get all the channels for $5.99 per month for 12-months. With tax that comes to $7 bucks and some change for the next 12 months. After 12 months (July 2020), the regular price goes up to about $15 bucks and some change. Still a good deal.

To give you a taste of what Sirius XM Radio offers, here are the channels that I listen to:

All that entertainment helps me stay ALERT on the road. I HATE driving, it’s boring. I don’t know how all them truckers drive 08-hours a day for a living. Between all the music & podcasts I have on my iPhone and now the several channels on SiriusXM Radio, I’m good to go.
