OK, let’s start with Apples.

Apples

“An Apple A Day Keeps The Doctor Away?”  The apple may be the King of the fruit world.  Apples have been eaten by man since at least the New Stone Age, nearly 6,000 years ago.

There are several thousand varieties of apples due to grafting; from the wild apple to produce strains that are less resistant to disease and apples that have particular flavors and colors.  Two main groups of apples are sweet one’s for eating and sharper varieties for cooking or making alcoholic drinks.

Apples are rich in many needed minerals and Vitamins and may help “Keep the doctor away.”  Apples are rich in soluble fiber, which has the ability to lower blood cholesterol levels and lower your blood pressure.  Apples also help to dampen the appetite and the juices in apples are noted to kill infectious diseases.

According to Dr. James Anderson at the University of Kentucky School of Medicine, soluble fiber prevents hunger pangs by steadying your blood sugar level.  Apples have virtually no saturated fat, cholesterol, or sodium.  A medium apple furnishes only 81 calories.

Apples contain pectin for those heart healthy wannabe’s.  Eat an apple prior to bedtime.  The pectin will keep your brain chemicals levels stable throughout the night.  You’ll wake-up happy and refreshed!

According to studies, even the aroma of apples can also calm you down, reducing anxiety.  The juices in a fresh apple are noted to be strong virus fighters.

According to a study at Michigan State University, subjects who ate two apples a day had less tension, fewer headaches, and less frequent emotional upsets.

According to a study at Yale University, researchers noted that the scent of spiced apples produces a calming effect which aids to lower blood pressure!

According to Italian, Irish and French researchers, apples help keep the cardiovascular system healthy.  Apples put a dent in blood cholesterol.

A research team headed by R. Sable-Amplis at the University of Paul Sabatier, Institute of Physiology, in Toulouse, was excited to find that apples triggered a 28-point drop in cholesterol in normal hamsters and a spectacular 52-point drop in cholesterol in animals with genetically high cholesterol!

Dr. Sable-Amplis asked a group of 30 middle-aged healthy men and women at the university not to change their diet except to eat 02 or 03 apples every day for a month.

By month’s end, the apples lowered the cholesterol in 24 of the 30 participants, HDL went up, and LDL dropped!  One participant’s cholesterol dived 30 percent!  Dr. Sable-Amplis thinks the apple’s secret is pectin, which is a soluble fiber.

According to a French study, eating 02 apples a day may lower your cholesterol level by at least 10 percent and by as much as 30 percent!  Why?  Apples and prunes are rich in a soluble fiber called pectin.

Studies reveal that consuming 15 grams (.53 ounces) of pectin per day for a few weeks can result in a 05 percent reduction in total serum cholesterol.

Baobab Fruit

First let me tell you about the Baobab Tree.  The African Baobab tree (Adansonia digitata) is literally a life-saving tree (‘tree of life’).  Found in South Africa and Australia, the Baobab trees grow very wide & grows up to 40-feet tall and live as long as 2,000 years.

An ugly tree, its branches look like roots.  Bushmen believed that God found the Baobab so ugly, He ripped the tree from the ground and put it upside down – thus the branches that look like roots.

The Baobab tree is literally a desert life saver for its tree parts provide Bushmen plenty of water, cloth, food, fuel, glue, homes, medicines, rope, shelters,…

As far as water, the Baobab’s root system captures rainfall and thousands of gallons of water can be stored in old hollow trees.  The Baobab trunks are so wide, they’ve been hollowed out and turned into bus stops, jails, lavatories, and shelters for all kinds of critters.

Now that you know about the Baobab Tree, let me tell you what the Baobab Fruit can do for you as far as Type 2 Diabetes.  The baobab fruit is the size of a coconut (03 pounds) and provides:

  • Fiber (helps reduce glycemic response)
  • Polyphenols (helps reduce glycemic response)
  • Vitamins A, D & E
  • Vitamin C (03 – 06 times more than an orange)

Studies at Oxford Brookes University in the United Kingdom and Monash University in Australia.  Different baobab trees throughout Africa were tested.

Extracts of the various baobab trees were added to drinks and white bread.  It turns out the baobab fruit extract:

  • When added to white bread, it reduced the starch breakdown during the digestion process.
  • When added to water, it reduced glycemic response
  • Polyphenols in the baobab extract interrupt the enzyme activity during digestion which prevents the breakdown of starches.
  • The study also found the fiber in the baobab fruit aids to reduce the release of sugars.

Bitter Melon

Bitter melon is a member of the gourd family.  It’s also known as bitter gourd, balsam apple, African cucumber,…  Bitter melon looks like a cucumber with warts.

Bitter melon has a history of medicinal uses.  Bitter melon is noted to be high in antioxidants.  It also offers charantin which mimics insulin.

Evidence demonstrates (animal & human studies) that bitter melon has the ability to lower blood sugar levels and blood triglyceride levels.

Blueberries

Blueberries are loaded with antioxidants.  Antioxidants that fight-off free radicals that cause cancer, slowing the aging process and help with nervous system and cognitive functions of the brain.

Blueberries show promise to fight cancers and diabetes.  But one important ingredient that blueberries provide are ellagic acids which induce apoptosis.  Apoptosis gets cancer cells to commit suicide – they self-destruct!

And here are some more healthy benefits of consuming those delicious blueberries.  Did you know blueberries are a common Swedish folk remedy for diarrhea?  In Sweden, dried blueberry soup has been used by physicians to treat childhood diarrhea.

According to Finn Sandberg, professor of pharmacology at Uppsala Biomedical Center in Sweden, 05 to 10 grams (1/3 of an ounce) of dried blueberries is the dosage for diarrhea.

Why do blueberries work so well against diarrhea?  Blueberries contain high concentrations of compounds that KILL both bacteria and viruses!

In Canadian tests, crushed blueberries destroyed nearly 100 percent of polio viruses within 24 hours, even when the blueberries were diluted 10 times!

According to Dr. Amr Abdel-Fattah Ismail, formerly a plant physiologist with the United States Department of Agriculture and now vice-president of the Maine Wild Blueberry Company, blueberry soup is a popular cold remedy on the European ski slopes.

WAIT!  Blueberries are noted to also help when it comes to a healthy heart.  According to the US Highbrush Blueberry Council, the antioxidants in blueberries fight to reduce the bad cholesterol (LDL) in the arteries.

Studies at the USDA Human Nutrition Center, found that blueberries were Number #01 in antioxidant activity compared to 40 other fruits and vegetables.

A cup of blueberries per day is recommended.

Jackfruit

Jamun

The Jamun fruit, seeds and bark (powder) are used to treat diabetes.  The unique ingredients in Jamun convert starch into energy and at the same time aids to control the blood sugar.

Jamun also rates low on the Glycemic Food Index.  Consuming Jumun is also noted to eliminate frequent urination and excess thirst.  Jamun may be sold in local drugstores.

Loquat Leaf / Plum

The Loquat tree originates from China.  Loquat fruit is eaten and used for medicinal purposes.  The fruit resembles and has a taste between a peach and a mango.

The Loquat fruit and leaves provide:

  • Calcium
  • Iron
  • Phosphorous
  • Potassium
  • Vitamin A & C

The health benefits of the Loquat Leaf are:

  • Aids in detoxifying the body
  • Aids in releasing antioxidants
  • Anti-Viral Effect
  • Liver Detox
  • Skin Health

You know those ‘detox foot pads’ that you wear overnight and they turn color telling you they sucked toxins out of your body?  You know what is one of the ingredients in those ‘detox foot pads’?  It’s the Loquat Leaf.

And the Loquat Leaf also provides help for diabetics.  The Loquat Leaf provides a chemical called triterpenes.  These triterpenes provide an acid called tormentic acid.  And this tormentic acid helps to increase insulin production thus decreasing diabetes related symptoms.

And as a bonus, the Loquat Leaf supports the pancreas by helping it regenerating more cells thus helping to produce more insulin.

Noni Plant

The Noni plant is known throughout the tropics.  In Malaysia, it is known as Mengkuda, and it is used to treat diabetes, hemorrhages, painful menstruation, and urinary disorders.

In the Caribbean, it is known as the Pain Killer Tree, and used to treat broken bones, bruises, sprains, and fever.  In Southeast Asia, it is known as Nhau, and is used to treat mouth and gum diseases as well as a sore throat.  In the Philippines, it is used as an intestinal cleanser, particularly to rid the body of parasites.

Noni works at the cellular level!  It enhances the ability of cells to absorb and utilize vital nutrients.  It has the ability to stimulate the immune system by increasing the production of T-cells.

Noni’s essential active ingredient was discovered by Dr. Heinicke while studying bromelain.  He named it xeronine which is a precursor to an alkaloid.  Xeronine is an alkaloid that the body produces to activate enzymes so that they function properly.  Xeronine energizes and regulates the body.  It’s essential to the functioning of proteins, without it death would be imminent!

Increasing the production of xeronine may help heal a wide variety of manifestations of diseases like arthritis, cancer, high blood pressure, low blood pressure and senility.

Follow the recommended dosage and instructions from the label and as per your doctor’s instructions.

Philippine Diabetes Remedy

Here’s a possible remedy for diabetes and it comes from the Philippines.  I was doing my research and went to one of my favorite websites when it comes to alternative health remedies – www.earthclinic.com

A reader reported that eating green bananas (un-ripened bananas).  Why green bananas instead of yellow ripe bananas?

The reader states that green bananas are starch resistant.  Starch also known as carbohydrates and these starches mess with your sugar levels in your body.  Green bananas nourish the good bacteria in your body while it kills bad bacteria & viruses.

He states one of his kin, a Type 2 diabetic, drinks alcohol while on a non-diabetic diet yet he keeps his blood sugar in check because he eats green bananas.

He also states a diabetic neighbor had his toe amputated with the rest of his foot in jeopardy – also being amputated.  The neighbor started eating green bananas.  Guess what happened?

The diabetic sore was healing and the neighbor eventually started working again.  He also applied silver water (colloidal silver) to his diabetic sore to enhance the healing process.

Prickly Pear Cactus

The prickly pear cactus is also called tuna, Indian fig, and beavertail plant.  Does this give you an idea how tasty it is and what it looks like?

The flat, pad-like cactus (shaped somewhat like ping pong paddle) contains a thick gummy substance that is edible.  The emerging fruits (tops of cactus) that show their red color in late spring early summer are also edible.

There are ways to prepare it for food but you first gotta watch out for those thorns or you’ll be hurting for hours!
