Forked Walking Staffs And Trekking Poles!

When you’re venturing the outdoors, two particular items I want to talk about are the Forked Walking Sticks (FWS)/ Staff and Trekking Poles.  Both can be used as:

  • Defensive Weapons
  • Snake Catcher
  • Calendar
  • Pace Count Recorder
  • Shovel
  • Clothesline
  • Depth Finder (crossing water obstacles)
  • Breecher (clear path in front of you)
  • Checking for Snakes And Other Crawling Critters
  • Flagpole
  • Ladder
  • Rope
  • Fire Stirrer
  • Fishing Pole…

and the list goes on – use your imagination!

The FWS / Trekking Poles can also spare your feet, knees and hips of thousands of pounds of unwanted pressure while you’re walking!

Here’s why you should use a home-made FWS or get your own Trekking Poles:

  • Add stability while walking.
  • Add balance while walking.
  • Can reduce loading while walking downhill by as much as 25 pounds per downward step.
  • Can reduce as much as 06 tons (12,000 pounds) of stress on your feet, legs, and back for each mile you walk!
  • Can reduce strain on your knees and joints by as much as 250 tons (500,000 pounds) during an 08-hour walk!

Folks you can use 01 or 02 FWS or you can get a pair of fancy trekking poles.  Below is a Point Of Contact worthy of your attention.

So, the bottom line here is to protect yourself and greatly reduce the huge amounts of stress on your joints by using FWSs or getting your own fancy trekking poles!  Me, I prefer a good ol’ fashion FWS (whoop em’ stick)!

I priced a set of trekking poles at Walmart.  One set was priced at $21 and another priced at $41.

Here’s a POC to get a set of trekking poles and other outdoor gear.

Nordic Walking For Fitness!

The following blog post was researched from an article in Eating Well Magazine (April 2021) – “Walk This Way” by Karen Asp.

Karen Asp knows what she’s talking about when it comes to Nordic Walking.  She’s a:

  • 10-year Nordic Walker
  • 06 World Nordic Walking Championships
  • 06 World Nordic Walking Speed Records (02 still standing)

What The Heck Is Nordic Walking?

Nordic Walking is a dry land exercise using ski-like poles.  It’s largely unknown in the United States but is very popular in parts of Europe.

How To Nordic Walk!

I (author) have never did any Nordic Walking.  However, to understand how to Nordic Walk, annotated below are some YouTube Videos:

Health Benefits Of Nordic Walking!

Nordic Walking is noted to have the following health benefits:

  • Nordic Walking is noted to get 90% of your body muscles working
  • Nordic Walking burns 20% to 46% more calories than walking exercise
  • Nordic Walking is less stressful on joints in comparison to running
  • Nordic Walking raises heart rate and oxygen consumption as much as a jogging but without the stress on joints

Best Exercise Machine!

Let me finish with this short segment.  I’ve been on plenty of exercise machines.  But the absolute #1 exercise machine for the best sweatn’ buckets butt-whoopin workout is a Nordic-Trac Cross Country Machine.  It’s like I’m ‘Nordic Walking!’

I still have my old one that I purchased for $25 at a 2nd hand store.  When they did make Cross Country Machines, they were sold for several hundred dollars.
