I was FORCED TO INVENT. Here’s how I clean my water garden filters without using a single drop of fresh water.

The last week of May 2020, I found out that I have a water pipe leak somewhere in the crawl space or the ½-mile main water pipe leading to my house. And the meter to my house is a good half-mile away.

The lady in Cutler, IL told me the last couple weeks of May 2020, I used over 6,000 gallons of water!!! NO WAY!!!

I couldn’t possibly use 6,000 gallons of water in 02-weeks even if I tried.

So I had the water turned-off completely. I’m waiting to check for the underground leak when the ground is bone dry. I’ll have the water turned-on and look for the ground to get wet above the pipe leak. With these frequent rain storms it may take a couple months to find the leak.

With no water, I still have to clean the water filters from the 03 submersible aeriation & filter pumps I have running in my 1,000-gallon water garden with 45+ koi fish.

I was FORCED TO INVENT to clean the 100+ pieces of water filters in my 03 home-made submersible aeriation & filter pumps.

See photos below.

Here’s what I did:

INGREDIENTS: Waders (if water is cold), 40-gallon tub (collect all dirty water & debris), 05-gallon bucket, plastic bailer (Rubbermaid container) and an empty 20-ounce Friskies Party Mix container with lid.

Step 01: UNPLUG the electric cord connected to all 03 submersible pumps. I pulled all 03 submersible pumps out of the water and placed them to the side of the water garden or on the 02 cat walks.

Step 02: I scooped-up some water from the water garden using the Friskies container.

Step 03: I pulled one of the rocks that hold down the filters in the 02-gallon bucket and poured water on it, holding it in the 40-gallon plastic tub.

Step 04: I placed the clean rock in my 05-gallon bucket and proceeded cleaning the remaining rocks using Step 02 – Step 04.

Step 05: I pulled a dirty filter from the 02-gallon bucket and placed it in the empty Friskies container.

Step 06: I submerged the Friskies container in the water garden and filled the container just half full.

Step 07: I screwed-on the top real tight and vigorously shook the container up& down about 40-times.

Step 08: I unscrewed the top. Keeping the dirty filter in the container, I emptied the dirty water and debris in the 40-gallon tub. I repeated Steps 06 – 08 02 to 04 more times till the filter is clean. I placed the clean filter in the 05-gallon bucket.

Step 09: Repeat Steps 05 – 08 for all remaining filters.

Step 10: Use the plastic bailer and bail all the dirty water and debris out of the 40-gallon tub and to the side of the water garden.

Step 11: I have a flat round filter that won’t fit in the Friskies container. I just placed it in the 40-gallon tub and added 03 full Friskies container of water garden water. I swished the flat round filter around to dislodge all debris. Once it’s clean, I placed it in the 05-gallon bucket.

Step 12: Bail all the dirty water and debris from the 40-gallon tub.

Step 13: Place the Wayne Submersible Pump (WSP) and the 02-gallon bucket in the empty 40-gallon tub. Add ample water and clean the bucket and WSP of any debris. Place the bucket and WSP to the side and bail all dirty water and debris from the 40-gallon tub.

Step 14: Reassemble the submersible aeriation & filter pump.

Step 15: Repeat Steps 02 – 14 for the other 02 submersible aeriation & filter pumps.

WAIT WAIT WAIT!!!!   HOLD THE PHONE!!!!

I know what you’re asking. Since I have the water turned-off at my house, what the heck am I doing for water? That’s another blog post coming in August 2020.

MOST IMPORTANT NOTE: You know all those gallons and gallons of dirty muddy water that I bailed to the sides of my watergarden? I’m thinking about making a home-made filter system to CLEAN THAT MUDDY WATER so it’s CLEAR so I can put it back in my watergarden. This will be a future blog post so keep coming back.

Like I said, I was FORCED TO INVENT so I could clean all those 100+ pieces of water filters. And here’s one of my Survival Books where these prisoners are FORCED TO INVENT to survive their misery, starvation, abuse,…
