Bigger Koi Fish Need More Oxygen!

I have a small 1,000-gallon water garden with approximately 45 koi fish.  I started my interest in my water garden in March / April 2008, when I found about a 06 koi fish in the water garden.

I moved on my property in October 2007 and did nothing to the water garden.  I had no idea there were 06 koi fish in the water garden because the water was black.  It was black black.  And it had a lot of debris in it.  So like I said, in March 2008, I found those 06 koi fish.  It SHOCKED me they could live in that black black water and all that debris and they were never fed for those 05-months from October thru February.

About 2010, I came home and there were 50 baby koi fish in the water garden.  Now I was clocking-in at about 60 koi fish.

So, over the years, I continuously ran my home-made water filters / aerators in my water garden.  And all the koi fish survived.  I might lose 01 koi fish a year due to some sickness they had or a raccoon inflicted wound.

A few years ago, I lost one koi fish I named Titanic because he was the biggest of all the koi fish.  My electricity went out for more than 24-hours and since he was the biggest koi fish and needed additional oxygen, he died.

Just recently – 21 May 2022 (Saturday), I accidently forgot to plug-in the electricity to the 03 water filters / aerators.  I woke up late the next morning and found Titanic II, Goldie, a smaller gold fish and at least 05 other fish floating sideways in the water.  Then it hit me “I forgot to plug-in the electricity.”  I was temporarily using the outdoor outlet to fill-up my compressor to inflate a tire on my Saturn Vue.

I plugged-in the electricity, the 03 water filters / aerators started working.  I was hoping the all the koi fish were still alive.  All recuperated except for Titanic II (Titanic’s brother), Goldie and a smaller koi fish.  I’ve had Titanic II and Goldie from day-01.

Both Titanic II and Goldie were the biggest koi fish of all 45 koi fish.  Thus, they needed more oxygen than the other koi fish.

It was my fault they died.  I simply forgot to plug-in the electricity for all 03 pumps to start working.

Here’s a photo of all 03 koi fish who were properly buried in my pet graveyard after taking this photo.  Look at the size of Titanic II and Goldie by comparison to the quarters coins I placed on them.
