Grocery Store Bagger!
I applied for a job as a grocery bagger at Scott Air Force Base Commissary. In just a few weeks I was hired and started working as a bagger.
I was only working:
- Saturday 1400 hours (2pm) to 1900 hours (7pm)
- Sunday 1400 hours (2pm) to 1900 hours (7pm)
- Monday 1500 hours (3pm) to 1900 hours (7pm)
- Tuesday 1500 hours (3pm) to 1900 hours (7pm)
I worked with about 10 other grocery baggers and we rotated taking turns to be a grocery bagger and a helper. The grocery bagger would carry all the groceries to the customer’s vehicle and load-up the grocery bag into the vehicle.
The customer then tips the grocery bagger. On rare occasions the tip is nothing but the tips are usually between $03 up to $10.
I averaged $51.22 per work day and it wasn’t labor intensive. The hardest part is getting rained on.
I didn’t work as a bagger very long. I never made it to the end of the 02-month probation period. I ‘resigned’ because the hour drive to Scott AFB Commissary and 01-hour return trip wasn’t agreeing with me. I kept droning at the wheel. I hate driving – it’s super boring to me.
Anyway, I made detailed notes on the tips I made as a grocery bagger and here they are:
