Do you know what an SMMA is? Starting back in 2016, SMMA spread like wildfire. SMMA stands for Social Media Marketing Agency.
SMMA helps small to big businesses get leads for their businesses. SMMA uses Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest,…to place advertisements on their platforms.
SMMA’s are supposed to be advertising experts in getting leads for their customers.
I won’t name the SMMA company (I’ll tell you why later) that I recently hired (05 May 2020) to help me learn how to place my own ads. I know ZERO about placing ads.
I just didn’t jump in and purchase their services and products out of the blue. I actually cased them out for about 04-months. I listened to their YouTube videos, their podcasts, signed-up for their e-mails,…
I paid for their services and it turns out the 01-hour 01 on 01 consultation resulted in ZERO leads.
I also paid for one of their advertising courses with all the bells and whistles.
So when the 01 on 01 consultation resulted in ZERO leads, I figured their advertising software wouldn’t be any helpful to me to get any leads for my business.
I never opened-up the link to get to the advertising software, so I immediately asked for a refund (within 48-hours).
This is where I ran into trouble. At the end of both e-mail payment confirmations, it read a ‘No Refund Policy.’ I didn’t know they had a ‘No Refund Policy.’
So this is what I did to get a refund when this company has a a ‘No Refund Policy.’
- I e-mailed the company daily for a week and a half requesting a refund
- I e-mailed the company explaining why their ‘No Refund Policy’ is unethical, especially when they tell their customers about their ‘No Refund Policy’ AFTER THE SALE.
- After more than a week of e-mails, I e-mailed them again reiterating how I thought their ‘NO REFUND POLICY’ was unethical. I also wrote in the e-mail how I was going to be upfront with them and told them I was in the process of gathering Points of Contact throughout the United States to complain to about their unethical business practices.
Just for your own information, here are the POPCs I was going to complain to with detailed notes and images:
- State Attorney General (their State)
- State Attorney General (my State – Illinois)
- Federal Bureau of Investigation (their local FBI)
- Federal Bureau Of Investigation Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3)
- Federal Trade Commission
- Internal Revenue Service (IRS)
- Local Police Department (their City)
- Chamber of Commerce (their City)
- Chamber of Commerce (my City)
- Postal Inspectors (their City)
- Postal Inspectors (my City)
- Better Business Bureau
- The United States Department of Justice, Washington D.C.
- Department of Consumer Affairs (their State)
- Department of Consumer Affairs (my State)
- Internet Fraud and Lottery / Sweepstakes Fraud by Internet
- Newspapers (their City)
- AARP (American Association for Retired People)
- American Civil Liberties Union
- Military Consumer
The reason I won’t mention the name of this SMMA company is because of mixed-up e-mails and unanswered phone calls. They were already going to give me a refund and I didn’t know it. And one morning (16 May 2020 – Saturday), I checked my balance for my checking account and unexpectedly, there is was, my REFUND!
I have nothing against the people at this SMMA company. No doubt they’re good people. However, it’s their company’s ‘NO REFUND POLICY’ that I have issues with.
Lessons Learned: BEFORE YOU PURCHASE any service or product on the internet, ask them “What is your refund policy?” If they say they have a ‘NO REFUND POLICY’ – EFFN’ RUN RUN RUN RUN!!!!!!
The only reason, I got a refund out a SMMA company with ‘A No Refund Policy’ is because I was persistent in asking for a refund.
WARNING: Don’t go ballistic. No cussing, no threats,… Be professional. If you cuss at them and make threats, you’ll just piss em’ off and they now have ammunition to take legal actions against you.
