I’m trying to save you some money in case this happens to your fridge.

Approximately last Fall 2018, my 10-year old General Electric refrigerator door wouldn’t close. The collapsing light switch that makes contact with the door as it closes was off kilter. Actually, the whole fridge door was actually a tad off kilter. I’m sure the door loosened-up on the hinges. I knew if I called a repairman, it would cost at least $60 – $80 bucks to fix it.

So what I did, I took a piece of cardboard and shoved it in the light switch housing to keep it depressed in its housing. I had no light when I opened the fridge door but I saved about $80 bucks.

Well that worked till late March 2019, when that piece of cardboard slipped-out of the light switch housing. So I looked at the collapsible light switch again and yes, I got a ‘ah ha’ moment. I wanted to fix the problem for good.

I took my garden shears and snipped-off the very tip of the collapsible light switch. I closed the door and it CLOSED like it’s supposed to with the light turning off like it’s supposed too. Thus, I fixed it in 10-seconds and saved about $80!!!

A simple 10-second fix, but most repairman would easily charge about $80 to fix it by tightening-up the screws on the doors. And at worst, charge you at least several hundred dollars for a new fridge.
