This first part comes straight from me (author).  This is so simple, you can save HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS EACH MONTH off your electric bill.  My lowest utility bill was $38 versus an average $200 – $300 bill.  I’ve done this over the years and I have my electric bills to prove it.  Let me start with the Clothes Dryer.

Clothes Dryer:  Clothes Dryers use 220 volts and use a lot of energy and that means a chunky electric bill.  I have 02 clothes lines.  One with 03 lines in the backyard and one clothes line in the carport.  I use them instead of using the dryer.  When there’s possible rain, I use my carport clothes line.

But you don’t know it, even if you’re not using your dryer it’s still using electricity.  What I do, is I go to the breaker box in the utility room and flip the dryer switch to OFF!  That really makes a difference.

You can also try this.  Is it a nice day outside?  Dry your clothes just half-way.  To get em’ fluffy and to get rid of all the debris (lint, cat hair, dog hair, human hair,…).  Stop your dryer half-way, and pull out all your laundry and let Mother Nature finish drying your clothes on the clothes line outside.  This will save you a few bucks on your electric bill but those few bucks add up.

IMPORTANT NOTE:  I go to the laundromat to use the big washers.  I see people come in there with wet clothes and use the big dryers.  Why don’t they dry their clothes at home?  Cause it only cost about $3 to $4 bucks to dry 03 or 04 loads of clothes using the laundromat’s dryers versus using the heck out of the smaller dryer at home.  They already did the math and figured out IT IS CHEAPER to use the laundromat’s electricity.  Plus if they’re smart, they time drying their clothes on the same day they go shopping for groceries USING GROCERY COUPONS!

Central Air:  I don’t use my central air.  Since I live alone, I don’t have to worry about keeping anybody cool in the summer and warm in the winter.  SERIOUSLY, I don’t use my central air.  That alone SAVES A COUPLE HUNDRED BUCKS A MONTH.

In the months of March to May the temperatures are mild.  Likewise, the temperatures in September and October are mild.  These months there’s no need to use the heat or cold anyway.

But the bitterly cold winter months of November to February and hot humid months of June to August would have most folks down right miserable and even sent to the Emergency Room.

If you read any of my Survival Work, I’ve talked many times about what is called “The Art of Suffering.”  And I practice it all the time.  Thus – “I don’t use my central air.”  I just got my latest bill, and it was the highest since last year or the last few years.  It was a whopping $51 bucks.  If I’d of been using the A/C 24/7, no doubt my electric bill would be about $300 bucks or more easy.

But WAIT!  I do an additional thing to insure my utility bill is low as possible.  I went to the breaker box and flipped the Central Air switch to OFF.

Unplug It:  Turning off an electric appliance or device is not good enough.  That turned-off appliance or device is still using electricity.  Turn it OFF and UNPLUG IT from the outlet.

Hot Water Heater:  That hot water feels so good when taking a long hot shower.  But do you have to have it on its highest setting?  Try lowering the temperature setting on the hot water heater and you should see a lower electric bill.  Another thing I do, when leaving the house for work, I go to the breaker box and switch the Hot Water Heater switch to OFF.

Light Bulbs:  If you switch your light bulbs (when they burn out) to Energy Star light bulbs, that will help you reduce your electric bill.
