I have nothing against anybody making a living charging fair prices for their labor and costs.  But some people take advantage of their customers – like mechanics.  Early June 2005, I took my car (Corsica) into a shop (St. Louis, MO) because it was leaking radiator fluid and power steering fluid.  These leaks started at just about the same time.

I took my car into this shop and they looked it over.  I returned just an hour later to learn they wanted about $850 to fix just the radiator leak alone.  The leak was at the lower middle left of the engine (from the driver’s seat).

I’m stingy with the money so I said NO!  I took off and I learned later they forgot to recap my radiator so I had to purchase another radiator cap.  Well, I went to Auto Zone and purchased some regular radiator leak-stop stuff.  It kinda slowed it down.  A couple days later I purchased an 8.5 fluid ounce bottle of Bar’s Leaks Liquid Aluminum Radiator Stop Leak that only cost about $5.

THAT BABY STOPPED THE LEAK DEAD IN ITS TRACKS.  It’s been 30+ days and the radiator ain’t leaking a lick.  As far as the power steering leak, I had to replace a $50 power steering hose.  He charged me $400 for everything.  But when I saw HOW EASY it was to replace – I kicked myself in the butt.  It looked so complicated but was so easy to repair.

Anyway, I thought I’d tell you this little story in case you have a radiator leak.  Try Bar’s Leaks Liquid Aluminum Radiator Stop Leak first, before you spend several hundred dollars on over-priced mechanic fees.

How much you wanna bet that them mechanics would have used the same $5 bottle of Bar’s Leaks Liquid Aluminum Radiator Stop Leak and still charged me $850.00?  A $845.00 profit!!!!!

Note:  Remember I stated they wanted to charge me $850 to stop the radiator leak?  A brand new radiator would have cost less than half that price.  There are reputable auto shops and there are auto shops ripping people off with no conscious, no remorse.  So be careful when taking your vehicle to an auto shop for repairs.
